Photography: The Art of Noticing

I don't think you have to go somewhere extraordinary to find something worth photographing.

My photography is about slowing down long enough to notice what is already there: The way light falls across a building, a bird hiding in palm trees, the symmetry of a flower, a surprising color, a reflection, the way nature and man exist side by side.

I photograph places that make me feel something, but I also photograph ordinary moments that might otherwise go unnoticed.

August 2026

August is a hot one in Florida, but we still braved the great outdoors! We had some time with the family before school started back up again for a little staycation adventure - day trips to explore our parks and natural landscapes. I loved Miami's Oleta State Park, Boca Raton's Morikami Gardens, as well as travel for art projects including the lighthouses at Jupiter and Hillsboro, piers at Lake Worth and Juno Beach, and critters of all kinds at parks in between.

July 2026

This month was about man, nature, and technology, and how they work together. Discovering new ways to get places, including a paddleboard and snorkeling adventure to Peanut Island. The beauty of both a bird hiding in palm trees, a city skyline, and even an interesting art wall over a parking garage in Miami. It was a month of exploring my own homeland through the hot weather and natural waters.

The breathtaking views of the past come to the present. Grateful for landscapes, foods, and laughs that bring back memories of good times in Austria, Italy, and Germany. No better time than the present to take that trip down memory lane!

This month starts with finding faith in unexpected places and continues to be surrounded by the beauty of sunsets, hidden treasures in nature, and finding yourself in long-lost places.

This month was about exploring the local flora and fauna of Florida. From Everglades birds to beaches. Smooth sailing to stormy castles. Finding art in the cities and also in the details of nature. It felt like magic.

Tides of change. Remembering my why over that last bridge, when everything hurts. Singing out loud just to hear the motivation through the wind. Watching nature to try to understand and apply its unique beauty and balance.

This month is about re-connecting with old experiences and forging new ones. The month started with a visit to "sacred ground" in Key Biscayne, Miami, after a hiatus of 14 years. It's about experiencing light and love in new ways. Standing tall and enjoying all the joy and beauty of nature.

Flowers are an easy reminder of the beauty around us. No two are the same - another visual reminder that the only person you can be is you, and I can be is me. They also draw nourishment from the same simple sources we do; the sun, water, the earth. Each other.

The following photos range from a journey to Isernia / Naples / Rome Italy to various places in Palm Beach County, Florida, some right from my backyard, or favorite park. It's about taking the time to notice and appreciate the beauty of nature's symmetry, color, and purpose around us. A small but regular effort and you'll notice things in a way you never have before.
